MEDIA RELEASE

Pagans say: Keep so-called ‘male witch’ locked away.

23rd June 2008, 1700 AEST
The Pagan Awareness Network Incorporated (PAN Inc), an association that represents witches, Pagans, and followers of other nature-based faiths, is writing to Victoria’s Department of Justice this week urging them to maintain an extended supervision order against convicted sex-offender Robin Angus Fletcher.
“This is not a man we want walking the streets,” PAN Inc president David Garland said today.
Fletcher was sentenced in 1997 to ten years jail for raping two fifteen year-old girls under the pretext of a ‘Pagan initiation.’
“What Fletcher did has nothing to do with the legitimate beliefs and practices of Pagans,” Mr Garland said. “Trying to claim a religious motive for his actions is abhorrent. It demonstrates he is still not rehabilitated, and that’s why he needs to remain under intensive supervision.”
“Robin Fletcher should remain behind the walls of Ararat Prison until he can admit that what he did was wrong by the standards of any religion,” Mr Garland added. “Unfortunately it appears from his behaviour while in prison that he is far from rehabilitated.”
In 2005 Fletcher was found to be ‘grooming’ potential victims via correspondence with individuals in Ghana.
“The bottom line is that the community needs to be protected from predators like Fletcher,” Mr Garland said. “His supposed religion doesn’t make any difference to that.”

Pagan Awareness Network Reaching 20,000 People

P.A.N's news, views, and issues will be reaching over 20,000 people each quarter with topical information useful to the larger pagan community. This has been made possible by P.A.N. being given a regular dedicated column in the new "Spellcraft Magazine" called "The P.A.N. Pages." Best of all the editorial content of this column will be decided by PAN Inc. Check it out on http://www.spellcraft.com.au

Spellcraft is a new publication to hit the shelves in Australia. As well as regular columns like the P.A.N. Pages, Spellcraft offers a regularly updated list of Pagan meets and gatherings and an exhaustive almanac of astronomical information linked with Pagan celebration days, which is a very useful little reference guide. Spellcraft aims to include articles of interest to newbies, as well as those who are more advanced along their spiritual path. Spellcraft is eager to make this magazine better and of more use to the larger pagan community and is keen to receive feedback and suggestions. Spellcraft is also welcoming submissions of articles. Articles must be under 2000 words and be on appropriate topics for the Pagan community. Therefore, this is your chance to make this magazine your own. Have your say to 20,000 people in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and soon the UK too!

Please send any articles submitted for consideration as well as feedback and suggestions to: - she@spellcraft.com.au
