Out with the old, in with the new year Part 2

This blog is a part two in a set of posts about clearing out negative energy and setting your intentions for the new year. Part one, which focusses on clearing out last year’s baggage can be read here. This blog post will focus on filling your home with good energy for the new year.

New Year’s Day is an optimistic time for many. It is associated with optimism for the future and a time when many of us feel motivated to make positive changes in our lives. As such, this post will list a number of ways that you can make some tangible steps towards making these changes.

Ask for guidance

The new year can be a great time to begin or deepen your connection to all things spiritual. This is a time when the air is filled with potential energy, so it is an especially auspicious time to forge new working relationships.

If you are looking to connect with a deity/guide/guardian etc all you need to do is ask. There is no need for complex rituals or to even know specifically who or what you should connect with. All you need to do is concentrate and send your wish out into the universe to find your connection.

All you need is a quiet moment where you can calm yourself and clear your mind. It is okay if you don’t have a specific request in mind. Think of it like raising your hand at the beach if you are caught in a rip. You don’t need to provide the lifeguards with a detailed description of everything that you’re thinking and feeling and what you would like from them: it is enough to raise your hand and they will come to your assistance. They are trained professionals who have the skills, resources and knowledge to determine how best to help you. Likewise, all you need to do is send out your wish to connect with spirituality and let help come to you.

A tarot reading

The Wheel of the Year/Zodiac Spread is a 12 card tarot spread where a card is chosen for every month of the following year. Each card represents the main theme for that month.

Place the 12 cards in a circle and begin with the card in the 1 o’clock position and continue reading the cards clockwise. This reading will give you a general overview of the major events of the year. It is a good reading for general advice regarding when you may need to save up for a rainy day, mind your temper or be careful who you do business with. You can draw additional cards if you require more details about certain months.

Take practical steps

Finally, it is important to keep in mind that wishing alone cannot create practical changes in your life. Ultimately, it is up to each of us to help ourselves. If there is a goal you are working towards, try to work towards it every day.

If you’re writing a book, write a little bit every day. Even if it’s only once sentence. If you are trying to lose weight, do a little bit of exercise every day, even if it’s only five push ups. If you’re trying to learn a new language, practise every day, even if you just revise the words you already know.  You get the picture. Every little bit you do today is a little bit less that you need to do tomorrow and brings you a little bit closer to the finish line. In time, doing what you need to do will become part of your daily routine like brushing your teeth or checking your blind spot before merging. Doing it will become easier and easier and one day, you’ll be done 😊
